This week on tips - Top 10 skills for 2023 (and maybe beyond) and usage of the back of the hammer
Hello dear reader,
Welcome to week XXIII. Today we commemorate International Workers' Day, and with that in mind, I wanted to share some facts that I found about this day before jumping into this week’s tips:
Origins of International Workers' Day: International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, traces its roots back to the Haymarket affair, which took place in Chicago on May 4, 1886. The event started as a peaceful rally supporting an eight-hour workday but turned violent when a bomb was thrown at police. The day is now observed annually on May 1st to honor the sacrifices made by workers in their fight for better working conditions.
A global celebration: International Workers' Day is celebrated in over 80 countries worldwide, including many European and Asian countries, as well as in some countries in South America and Africa. Events often include parades, protests, and other demonstrations to support workers and highlight ongoing labor issues.
The Eight-Hour Workday: One of the critical achievements celebrated on International Workers' Day is the establishment of the eight-hour workday, an important achievement of labor movements in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This standard has significantly improved the quality of life for many workers and remains an important symbol of the power of collective action.
It is important to highlight that even though today’s workers’ right is far better than 30 years ago, we still have to fight against modern slavery and other aspects that today’s global environment bring to the table in terms of working conditions.
Now, let’s go into this week’s tips.
Top 10 skills for 2023 (and maybe beyond)
A conversation that has been going around during the first few months of the year 2023 is about the skills that you need to focus on to be able to not only survive but thrive in the era of technology; also known as the 4th industrial revolution.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023, there are ten crucial skills that professionals should focus on to thrive in the workplace this year.
Topping the list are cognitive skills, with an emphasis on both analytical and creative thinking. These abilities enable individuals to evaluate information, make informed decisions, and devise innovative solutions to complex problems. The back of the hammer, what is it for?
From the #TodayYearsOld trend, I found a usage for the back of the hammer that no one ever told me. I just will show you, in the picture below you see this guy putting the nail into the back of the hammer; it helps you place the nail without the risk of punching your fingers:

From our November 15th edition of 2022, I shared with you a tool that helps you remove unwanted objects from pictures. Cleanup is an online tool where you can upload your picture and highlight the objects you want to remove, and it will try its best to conserve the original state of the photograph and take that annoying object from the picture. It is also good if you work in marketing or have a small business where you want to show a product on your Instagram account. Here I leave you an example:
